 NEW YORK, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 0.38 to 386.35. Declines led advances 289 to 263 with 224 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell one cent.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 12,650,345 shares, down from the 13,815,815 shares traded yesterday. After-Hours volume totaled 5,200 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 12,655,545 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Fruit of the Loom, down 1/2 to 36 on 521,000 shares, followed by SPI Holdings, down 5/8 to 5 on 490,400 shares. The third most active issue, Chambers Development Company was up 1/4 to 8-7/8 on 468,700 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 247,800 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications, unchanged at 1-5/16 on 55,600 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 177,177 contracts changing hands as compared with 191,536 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Philip Morris Jun. 70 series, up 1/4 to 1 on 1,435 contracts, followed by the Philip Morris May 75 series, up 5/16 to 1-1/2 on 1,378 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index May 335 series up 1/8 to 1/4 on 1,243 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Chase Manhattan May 30 series, up 1/8 to 1/4 on 3,230 contracts, followed by the LT-20 Dec. 30 series up 5/8 to 6-3/4 on 3,010 contracts. The third most active was the Chase Manhattan May 25 series, up 15/16 to 1-5/8 on 2,684 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 S&P Midcap Index: up .36 to 140.79. Contracts volume 5,585, with 3,175 puts and 2,410 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 1.45 to 351.15. Contracts volume 5,887, with 3,333 puts and 2,554 calls.
 Capped Major Market Index: down 1.45 to 351.15. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
 LT (XLT) Index: down .15 to 35.11. Contracts volume 3,678, with 518 puts and 3160 calls.
 Institutional Index: down 1.61 to 420.96. Contracts volume 1,160, with 470 puts and 690 calls.
 Capped Institutional Index: down 1.61 to 420.96. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
 Japan Index: up .51 to 169.94. Contracts volume 1,928, with 939 puts and 989 calls.
