 NEW YORK, April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in moderate trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 5.56 to 387.08. Declines led advances 413 to 158 with 228 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell 17 cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 11,177,145 shares, down from the 15,361,780 shares traded Thursday. There was no after-hours trading today.
 Topping the most active list was U.S. Bioscience, down 1 1/4 to 10 1/4 on 659,600 shares, followed by Fruit of the Loom, down 1 1/8 to 36 3/4 on 393,500 shares. The third most active issue, Chambers Development Corp. Class A was up 3/8 to 8 3/8 on 360,200 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 138,200 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Top Source, Inc., up 1/8 to 2 3/4 on 30,500 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 188,143 contracts changing hands as compared with 319,670 contracts traded Thursday. Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the MidCap Jun. 140 series, up 2 1/16 to 3 7/8 on 2,310 contracts, followed by the MidCap May 142 1/2 series, up 1 5/8 to 3 5/8 on 2,145 contracts. The third most active was the MidCap May 145 series up 2 5/8 to 5 3/4 on 2,085 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Unisys May 10 series, up 7/16 to 1 5/16 on 3,423 contracts, followed by the American Express May 25 series down 1/16 to 3/16 on 3,252 contracts. The third most active was the Amgen May 55 series, down 1 1/2 to 2 3/4 on 3,163 contracts.

 S&P Midcap Index: down 3.09 to 141.17. Contracts volume 11,679, with 10,719 puts and 978 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 5.50 to 351.51. Contracts volume 10,019, with 5,338 puts and 4,681 calls.
 Capped Major Market Index: down 5.50 to 351.51. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: down .55 to 35.15. Contracts volume 1,670, with 1625 puts and 45 calls.
 Institutional Index: down 7.71 to 422.11. Contracts volume 1,339, with 1,059 puts and 280 calls.
 Capped Institutional Index: down 7.71 to 422.11. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
