 NEW YORK, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in active trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 6.19 to 385.38. Declines led advances 425 to 166 with 199 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell 18 cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 14,348,060 shares, up from the 13,286,470 shares traded yesterday. After-hours volume totaled 1,000 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 14,349,060 shares.
 Topping the most active list was Chambers Development Corp. Class A, down 1/2 to 8-5/8 on 746,800 shares, followed by Paine Webber Put Warrants, up 1 to 14-1/2 on 475,800 shares. The third most active issue, US Bioscience was down 1/4 to 12-1/8 on 409,900 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled 313,400 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was Intertel Communications, up 1/16 to 1-9/16 on 137,500 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 167,819 contracts changing hands as compared with 138,116 contracts traded yesterday. Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Major Market Apr. 340 series, up 2-3/16 to 3 on 4,452 contracts, followed by the MidCap Apr. 145 series, up 2-3/8 to 4-1/4 on 3,596 contracts. The third most active was the MidCap May 145 series up 1-1/2 to 5-7/8 on 3,170 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Intel Corp. Apr. 60 series, down 3/8 to 1/2 on 2,113 contracts, followed by the Major Market Index Apr. 350 series down 2-3/4 to 1 on 2,065 contracts. The third most active was the Apple Computer Apr. 60 series, down 1-5/16 to 13/16 on 1,952 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: down 2.66 to 141.24. Contracts volume 14,604, with 14,209 puts and 395 calls.
 Major Market Index: down 7.27 to 343.15. Contracts volume 15,949, with 10,076 puts and 5,873 calls.
 Capped Major Market Index: down 7.27 to 343.15. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: down .73 to 34.31. Contracts volume 375, with 312 puts and 63 calls.
