 NEW YORK, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in active trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down .67 to 401.36. Declines led advances 309 to 254 with 252 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell two cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 13,061,605 shares, down from the 16,923,185 shares traded Friday. After-hours volume totaled 10,400 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 13,072,005 shares.
 There were 159 block trades, while 250 blocks were traded in the previous trading session.
 Topping the most active list was Chambers Development Corp., unchanged at 10-1/4 on 938,600 shares, followed by Amdahl Corp., down 3/8 to 17-1/4 on 372,700 shares. The third most active issue, International Corona Corp. was down 3/16 to 3-15/16 on 371,200 shares.

 Today's volume in the Emerging Company Marketplace (ECM) totaled
 366,400 shares. The most actively traded stock on the ECM was
 Medphone, up 1/4 to 1-3/4 on 71,400 shares.
 Trading in options was light today with 141,915 contracts
 changing hands as compared with 250,995 contracts traded Friday.
 Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Philip Morris Jun.
 70 series, unchanged at 7/8 on 2,299 contracts, followed by the
 Philip Morris May 75 series, up 1/16 to 1-1/2 on 1,308 contracts.
 The third most active was the Major Market Index Apr. 340 series
 down 1/2 to 2-3/8 on 980 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Glaxo Apr. 30
 series, up 3/16 to 3/8 on 1,951 contracts, followed by the MidCap
 May 157 1/2 series down 1/16 to 1/2 on 1,500 contracts. The third
 most active was the Philip Morris May 80 series, down 1/8 to 1-1/8
 on 1,496 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Standard & Poor's MidCap Index: down .17 to 148.04. Contracts
 volume 4,468, with 412 puts and 4,056 calls.
 Major Market Index: down .66 to 347.80. Contracts volume 9,813,
 with 5,491 puts and 4,322 calls.
