 NEW YORK, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in heavy trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 2.36 to 413.68. Advances led declines 356 to 269 with 213 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose 7 cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 20,048,105 shares, up from the 18,760,510 shares traded yesterday. After-Hours volume totaled 2,300 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 20,050,405 shares.
 There were 210 block trades, while 220 blocks were traded in the previous trading session.
 Topping the most active list was U.S. Bioscience, up 2 1/8 to 19 7/8 on 2,675,300 shares, followed by Viacom B, down 1 1/2 to 32 1/4 on 882,100 shares. The third most active issue, Amdahl was up 3/4 to 19 3/8 on 715,100 shares.

 Trading in options was light today with 145,315 contracts changing hands as compared with 125,931 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Amgen Feb. 65 series, down 7/8 to 3/4 on 2,920 contracts, followed by the Chase Manhattan Mar. 25 series, down 1/8 to 3 3/4 on 1,000 contracts. The third most active was the Institutional Index Mar. 345 series down 1 1/8 to 3/8 on 1,000 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the U.S. Bioscience Feb. 20 series, up 7/16 to 1 9/16 on 2,994 contracts, followed by the Major Market Index Feb. 345 series up 2 1/2 to 8 5/8 on 2,405 contracts. The third most active was the Disney Feb. 145 series, up 9/16 to 2 1/16 on 1,779 contracts.

 Major Market Index: up 4.38 to 351.60. Contracts volume 8,950, with 3,384 puts and 5,566 calls.
 Capped Major Market Index: up 4.38 to 351.60. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: up .44 to 35.16. Contracts volume 75, with 75 puts and 12 calls.
 Institutional Index: up 5.39 to 431.08. Contracts volume 4,757, with 3,773 puts and 984 calls.
 Capped Institutional Index: up 5.39 to 431.08. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
 Japan Index: down 1.33 to 221.09 Contracts volume 1,645, with 934 puts and 711 calls.
 Computer Technology Index: up 1.97 to 126.39. Contracts volume 102, with 100 puts and 2 calls.
