 NEW YORK, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in heavy trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 4.74 to 412.63, a new all-time record high. Advances led declines 398 to 232 with 243 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose 14 cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 28,035,200 shares, up from the 19,728,375 shares traded yesterday. After-hours volume totaled 1,000 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 28,036,200 shares.
 There were 337 block trades, while 289 blocks were traded in the previous trading session.
 Topping the most active list was Enzo Biochem, up 1-1/4 to 7 on 1,974,400 shares, followed by Biopharmaceutics, Inc., up 2 to 3-7/8 on 1,514,000 shares. The third most active issue, Amdahl Corp. was up 3/8 to 17-7/8 on 1,212,700 shares.

 Trading in options was moderate today with 237,365 contracts changing hands as compared with 175,195 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Major Market Index Jan. 345 series, down 1-5/16 to 11/16 on 3,160 contracts, followed by the Motorola Jan. 75 series, down 1/2 to 4-3/4 on 2,570 contracts. The third most active was the Midlantic Corporation Feb. 7 1/2 series down 1/8 to 1-7/8 on 1,964 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Merrill Lynch Feb. 65 series, up 1 to 2-7/8 on 3,581 contracts, followed by the Motorola Jan. 75 series down 1/16 to 1/8 on 2,400 contracts. The third most active was the Unisys Jan. 5 series, up 1/16 to 1/8 on 2,305 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Major Market Index: up 4.38 to 350.82. Contracts volume 20,733, with 10,185 puts and 10,548 calls.
 Capped Major Market Index: up 4.38 to 350.82. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
 XMI Leaps Index: up .44 to 35.08. Contracts volume 2,210, with 153 puts and 2,057 calls.
 Institutional Index: up 5.58 to 442.35. Contracts volume 6,952, with 4,611 puts and 2,341 calls.
