 NEW YORK, Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in very heavy trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 3.71 to 370.93. Advances led declines 375 to 259 with 257 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose eleven cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 24,574,060 shares, down from the 29,325,140 shares traded Friday. After-hours volume totaled 600 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 24,574,060 shares.
 There were 218 block trades, while 243 blocks were traded in the previous trading session.
 Topping the most active list was Hanson PLC Class B warrants when issued, up 1/16 to 13/32 on 10,173,500 shares, followed by Amdahl Corp., up 1-3/8 to 15 on 458,700 shares. The third most active issue, Wang Labs. Class B was up 1/4 to 2-3/8 on 261,500 shares.

 Trading in options was light today with 167,948 contracts changing hands as compared with 295,615 contracts traded Friday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Institutional Index Jan. 300 series, up 1/16 to 1/8 on 2,000 contracts, followed by the Institutional Index Jan. 200 series, unchanged at 1/16 on 2,000 contracts. The third most active was the Wells Fargo Jan. 100 series up 6-5/8 to 43-1/8 on 1,900 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Major Market Index Jan. 330 series, up 3-7/8 to 5-5/8 on 2,345 contracts, followed by the Glaxo Jan. 30 series up 1/8 to 1-3/16 on 2,080 contracts. The third most active was the American Express Jan. 20 series, up 1/8 to 1-3/16 on 2,034 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Major Market Index: up 7.64 to 330.13. Contracts volume 17,081, with 8,340 puts and 8,741 calls.
 Capped Major Market Index: up 7.64 to 330.13. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
