Exchange closed lower today in heavy trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 2.12 to 366.60. Declines led advances 360 to 227 with 275 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell seven cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 18,175,280 shares, up from the 13,929,645 shares traded yesterday. After-hours volume totaled 0 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 18,175,280 shares.
 There were 202 block trades, while 195 blocks were traded in the previous trading session.
 Topping the most active list was Hanson PLC Class B Warrants when issued, unchanged at 5/16 on 4,366,000 shares, followed by Hanson PLC Class C Warrants when issued, down 1/16 to 5/16 on 422,100 shares. The third most active issue, Echo Bay Mines was down 1/2 to 6-5/8 on 388,700 shares.

 Trading in options was light today with 156,375 contracts changing hands as compared with 148,811 contracts traded yesterday. Puts were higher as calls traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Major Market Index Dec. 315 series, down 3/16 to 7/16 on 2,635 contracts, followed by the Major Market Index Dec. 310 series, down 1/8 to 1/8 on 1,886 contracts. The third most active was the RJR Nabisco Dec. 10 series up 1/8 to 3/16 on 1,660 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Major Market Index Dec. 320 series, up 1/8 to 1-3/8 on 3,700 contracts, followed by the Gillette Mar. 50 series up 1/16 to 2-1/8 on 2,368 contracts. The third most active was the Major Market Index Dec. 315 series, up 1/2 to 5-1/8 on 2,295 contracts.
