 NEW YORK, Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in heavy trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 3.35 to 369.48. Advances led declines 334 to 233 with 293 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose 10 cents.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 18,026,860 shares, up from the 13,525,465 shares traded yesterday. After-hours volume totaled 1,500 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 18,028,360 shares. There were 196 block trades today.
 Topping the most active list was Hanson PLC Class B Warrants when issued, up 1/16 to 5/16 on 2,937,100 shares, followed by Echo Bay Mines, up 7-3/8 to 1/8 on 430,000 shares. The third most active issue, American Health Care was unchanged at 3-1/2 to on 420,800 shares.

 Trading in options was light today with 155,906 contracts changing hands as compared with 138,920 contracts traded yesterday. Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Wells Fargo Dec. 55 series, up 1-3/16 to 1-5/8 on 2,095 contracts, followed by the Wells Fargo Jan. 55 series, up 2-1/8 to 3-3/4 on 2,080 contracts. The third most active was the Philip Morris Dec. 70 series down 3/4 to 3/8 on 1,617 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Philip Morris Dec. 70 series, up 5/16 to 15/16 on 3,249 contracts, followed by the Glaxo Dec. 30 series up 1/16 to 5/8 on 2,567 contracts. The third most active was the Pfizer Dec. 65 series, up 1-7/8 to 8-7/8 on 1,888 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Major Market Index: up 2.00 to 317.20. Contracts volume 12,450, with 4,731 puts and 7,719 calls.
 Capped Major Market Index: up 2.00 to 317.20. Contracts volume 62, with 31 puts and 31 calls.
 LT (XLT) Index: up .20 to 31.72. Contracts volume 2,122, with 1,122 puts and 1,000 calls.
 Institutional Index: up 2.71 to 405.02. Contracts volume 3,484, with 2,022 puts and 1,462 calls.

 Prices on the American Stock Exchange closed lower this week in very active trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down 3.15 for the week to 369.48. The Market Value Index reached its intraday high of 373.00 on Monday and slipped to its intraday low of 366.10 on Friday. The average price per share fell 10 cents this week.
 Regular session stock volume for the week totaled 78,840,185 shares, up from the volume of 76,773,165 shares traded last week. After-hours trading for the week totaled 4,500 shares. There were 800 blocks traded during the week.
 Options trading was light this week as 758,555 contracts changed hands, compared with 726,466 contracts traded in last week's session.
