 NEW YORK, Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed lower today in very heavy trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed down .52 to 371.80. Declines led advances 340 to 246 with 245 issues unchanged. The average price per share fell one cent.
 Stock volume for the regular session totaled 21,612,630 shares, up from the 13,656,120 shares traded yesterday. After-hours volume totaled 0 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 21,612,630 shares.
 There were 213 block trades, while 203 blocks were traded in the previous trading session.
 Topping the most active list were the newly-listed Hanson PLC Class B Warrants. Trading on a when-issued basis, the warrants remained unchanged at 5/16 on 6,431,500 shares. London-based Hanson PLC is one of the U.K.'s largest companies whose ordinary shares trade on the London Stock Exchange.
 The second most active issue, Enzo Biochem, Inc., was up 3/4 to 6-3/8 on 1,469,100 shares, followed by Plains Resources which was down 5-1/4 to 14-3/4 on 1,231,800 shares.

 Trading in options was moderate today with 141,910 contracts changing hands as compared with 125,609 contracts traded yesterday. Calls/Puts were higher as calls/puts traded lower.
 Topping the most active list in puts was the Westinghouse Jan 15 series, up 5/16 to 15/16 on 1,977 contracts, followed by the Nabisco Mar 10 series, down 3/16 to 9/16 on 1,775 contracts. The third most active was the LT-20 Dec 32 1/2 series down 1/8 to 2-7/8 on 1,300 contracts.
 Topping the most active list in calls was the Novell Dec 50 series, up 1-1/8 to 7-1/4 on 3,242 contracts, followed by the Novell Dec 55 series up 1-3/8 to 3-5/8 on 2,401 contracts. The third most active was the Philip Morris Dec 70 series, unchanged at 3/8 on 2,334 contracts.
 AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
 Major Market Index: down 2.25 to 313.55. Contracts volume 10,009, with 3,674 puts and 6,335 calls.
 Capped Major Market Index: down 2.25 to 313.55. Contracts volume 0, with 0 puts and 0 calls.
 LT (XLT) Index: down .22 to 31.36. Contracts volume 2,040, with 1,340 puts and 700 calls.
 Institutional Index: down 2.34 to 396.06. Contracts volume 2,767, with 1,534 puts and 1,233 calls.
