    NEW YORK, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Prices on the American Stock


Exchange closed higher today in heavy trading. The Amex Market Value Index closed up 1.61 to 388.26, the highest level of the year. Advances led declines 346 to 239 with 238 issues unchanged. The average price per share rose five cents.
    Stock volume for the regular session totaled 15,054,895 shares, down from the 15,102,410 shares traded yesterday.  After-hours volume totaled 4,200 shares, bringing the cumulative volume for today to 15,059,095 shares.
    There were 219 block trades, while 230 blocks were traded in the previous trading session.
    Topping the most active list was ICN Biomedicals, Inc. up 1-1/2 to on 527,300 shares, followed by National Patent Development Corporation, up 5/8 to 5-1/2 on 438,300 shares.  The third most active issue, Go- Video, Inc., was up 1/8 to 2-1/2 on 417,100 shares.

    Trading in options was light today with 154,142 contracts changing hands as compared with 141,329 contracts traded yesterday.  Calls were higher as puts traded lower.
    Topping the most active list in puts was the Chase Manhattan Corporation Nov. 15 series, up 1/16 to 1/8 on 1,500 contracts, followed by the Major Market Index Nov. 320 series, down 5/8 to 1-7/16 on 1,465 contracts.  The third most active was the RJR Nabisco Nov. 7 1/2 series unchanged at 1/16 on 1,010 contracts.
    Topping the most active list in calls was the Trinity Industries Nov. 45 series, up 3-9/16 to 5-1/4 on 2,884 contracts, followed by the du Pont Nov. 45 series up 3/8 to 2-13/16 on 2,552 contracts.  The third most active was the du Pont Nov. 40 series, up 1/8 7-3/4 on 2,325 contracts.
    AMEX Index Options closed as follows:
    Major Market Index: up 1.37 to 323.61.  Contracts volume 7,637, with 3,292 puts and 4,345 calls.
    Lt (XLT) Index: up .14 to 32.36.  Contracts volume 75, with 75 puts and 0 calls.
    Institutional Index: up 3.37 to 409.52.  Contracts volume 2,223, with 973 puts and 1,250 calls.
    Japan Index: down 3.13 to 245.83.  Contracts volume 476, with 145 puts and 331 calls.
    Computer Technology Index: up 1.61 to 111.47.  Contracts volume 1, with 0 puts and 1 calls.
    Oil Index: down .51 to 250.95.  Contracts volume 10, with 0 puts and 10 calls.
