AMERICAN SOFTWARE TO DELIVER ENTERPRISE CLASS OPEN SYSTEMS SOFTWARE

AMERICAN SOFTWARE TO DELIVER ENTERPRISE CLASS OPEN SYSTEMS SOFTWARE
ATLANTA, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- American Software (NASDAQ: AMSWA) announced today that it will make available a full range of business solutions to the open systems marketplace.
This move is targeted to provide American Software's enterprise- class solutions for worldwide manufacturing, distribution and materials management-oriented businesses that run on UNIX(b) and AIX(a) operating systems as well as client-server technologies. In making this announcement, American Software introduces its ENSOFT(TM) series of enterprise software.
American Software President and CEO James C. Edenfield said: "Our ENSOFT series of enterprise solutions continues the legacy of our proven AMSOFT(TM) S/390(a) series of enterprise solutions to the next technology generation. ENSOFT represents the re-engineering of existing AMSOFT enterprise solutions under advanced client-server and open systems environments using information modeling technology. As information technology has become the agent for implementing mission critical strategies, the demand has increased for more responsive systems that are able to access global business data, turn it into enterprise level information and place it at the user's fingertips."
Edenfield added: "For more than two decades American Software has been successfully meeting the constantly changing information needs of the world's leading companies. We've demonstrated our capacity to anticipate and deliver on each new evolution of business technology. We've been able to do this because of our focus on industry standards and native implementation of current technologies."
In 1985, American Software introduced its first AMSOFT(TM) PC- WorkStation series, Forecast-pc(TM) and participated as a charter vendor in the IBM AS/400(a) platform announcement. Since 1985, American Software has introduced the AMSOFT Buyer Workstation(TM), VisionTech(TM) series (SAA/CUA)(a) and DOS-based front ends to host IBM S/390 and AS/400 solutions. Under IBM's CICS/OS2(a) announcement, American Software delivered its S/390 version of application solutions running on a PS/2 and integrated to its AS/400 and S/390 host solutions.
American Software offers scalable solutions for the IBM S390/AS/400/ PS2(a) environments as well as client-server-based solutions in the form of Logistics Planning Workstation, (LPW), Material Planning Workstation (MPW) and Warehouse Management (WMS). In addition, American Software provides enterprise computing solutions for interactive voice response, electronic imaging, executive information systems, automated data collection to include radio frequency, expert systems and real-time electronic data interchange.
"The success of our present rightsizing strategy allows us to leverage our research and development into open systems and client- server technology," said Edenfield. "Customers can now gain the benefits of rightsized solutions running in an open systems environment with graphical user interfaces for ease-of-use and accessibility. These applications will also embrace full relational database access."
According to Edenfield, American Software, as a software solutions provider, is uniquely positioned in the open systems marketplace. "We don't have to abandon our existing system development or dilute our industrial strength applications because of our tight adherence to standards and the employment of AMSOFT SolutionBuilder(TM) for software engineering and maintenance," said Edenfield. "Existing AMSOFT S/390 product architecture is presently designed around the client-server architecture with three identifiable components -- presentation, knowledge and data base. Because we don't need to redevelop around the client-server mode, we can remain competitive by efficiently maintaining our native industrial strength code. This is a win-win situation for our customers because they receive quick response solutions."
Headquartered in Atlanta, American Software develops, markets and supports business application software for a wide variety of industries including manufacturing, utilities, financial institutions, health care, telecommunications and distribution concerns. American Software has offices located throughout the United States and worldwide including London, Paris, Singapore, Toronto, Tokyo, Sydney, Melbourne and Bangkok.
