AMERICAN RESIDENTIAL MORTGAGE POSTS RECORD LOAN PRODUCTION IN MAY

LA JOLLA, Calif., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- American Residential Mortgage Corp., wholly owned subsidiary of American Residential Holding Corp. (NASDAQ: AMRS), today announced record loan production of $796 million for May, 127 percent more than May of 1992. The pipeline of loans-in-process was $1.9 billion at month end, 77 percent higher than 1992. New loan applications for May were 104 percent higher compared to May 1992. Year-to-date new loan applications totaled $4.9 billion, a 43 percent increase over the same period last year.
John Robbins, chief executive officer, cited increased home purchase activity, expanded branch capacity and a continued strong refinance demand for the increases. "Successful regional center and satellite expansion is reflected in continued higher volumes and productivity. Average regional volumes increased 20 percent from $20 million per month for the first five months of 1992 to $24 million per month for 1993."
American Residential recently announced regional expansion into the Midwest with new offices in St. Louis and Chicago. These openings follow entrance into the Denver and Columbus, Ohio, markets in 1992. "In less than a year, these new regions are generating strong volumes," said Robbins. "We have been effective at recruiting top mortgage banking professionals who are well established in their respective markets and who have been able to quickly establish a presence for American Residential."
The company reported that its servicing portfolio reached $10.8 billion at May 31, 1993, 53 percent higher than one year ago. Robbins noted, "We continue to improve the characteristics of our loan servicing portfolio through the addition of our own high- quality, low-coupon originations. The average loan balance for our new originations through the end of May 1993 was $123,000 and our servicing portfolio carried a weighted average note rate of 8.4 percent."
American Residential Mortgage Corp., headquartered in La Jolla, has 59 branches throughout the United States. The company originated $5.5 billion in home loans in 1992.
