AMERICAN POWER EARNINGS UP 112 PERCENT FOR FIRST QUARTER OF 1992
WEST KINGSTON, R.I., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- American Power Conversion Corporation (NASDAQ: APCC) today announced record sales and earnings for the first quarter ended March 31, 1992.
Sales for the first quarter of 1992 were $30.8 million, up 77 percent from $17.3 million for the first quarter of 1991. Earnings for the first quarter of 1992 were $4.6 million, or 20 cents per share, up 112 percent from $2.1 million, or 10 cents per share, in the first quarter of 1991.
Rodger Dowdell Jr., president and chief executive officer, said the company's results have been fueled by the proliferation of Local Area Networks (LANs), and increasing worldwide awareness of the effects power problems can have on computers and other sensitive electronic equipment.
During the first quarter, the company announced a price reduction across virtually all domestic models in its product lines. The price changes (effective April 1, 1992) bring the new list price (U.S.) for the company's entry-level Back-UPS to just $139.
"Passing on manufacturing efficiencies to our customers has been a key company philosophy," said Dowdell. "The market for the company's products appears to be highly elastic, and we believe each price reduction may be an opportunity to attract a brand new segment of buyers."
American Power Conversion is a leading manufacturer of uninterruptible power sources (UPS) which protect computers and similar power-sensitive electronic equipment from sags, spikes, blackouts and other power anomalies.
