AMERICAN PACIFIC EMPLOYS LT. GEN. (RET.) ROBERT D. BECKEL TO HEAD UP INTERNATIONAL HALOTRON EFFORTS

LAS VEGAS, June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- American Pacific Corp. (NASDAQ: APFC) today announced that it has elected Lt. Gen. Robert D. Beckel, USAF (ret.) as vice president of Halotron Inc., the company's subsidiary that develops and markets fire suppression products to replace ozone-depleting halons. Beckel's primary responsibilities will include marketing relationships and operations in Europe and elsewhere outside of the United States.
"General Beckel has extensive international business and management experience that correlates with our Halotron project needs," said Fred D. Gibson Jr., president and chief executive officer of American Pacific. "His command experience has included the management of organizations comprised of more than 50,000 people and billion dollar budgets. He has successfully led missions that require immediate performance and in which the effective use of limited personnel and financial resources is a critical factor. He has occupied positions requiring the highest levels of trust and confidence reposed by our government. He has established relationships of similar quality with industrial, military and political leaders around the world. Bob's skills and experience will be invaluable to the management of American Pacific and Halotron.
Prior to his retirement and to joining American Pacific, Beckel was commander of the 15th Air Force since 1990. From 1987 to 1990, he was deputy chairman of the NATO Military Committee in Brussels, Belgium. From 1984 to 1987 he was deputy chief of staff operations and chief of staff, Strategic Air Command (SAC), USAF. Beckel was a member of the first graduating class of the United States Air Force Academy.
American Pacific's principal business activities consist of the production of chlorate and perchlorate chemicals, including chiefly ammonium perchlorate, the oxidizer utilized in composite solid rocket propellants employed in a large number of space and military systems; the design and manufacture of environmental protection products; and industrial commercial real estate development. The company is also at the forefront of two developing specialty chemical markets; the manufacture of sodium azide, principally used in automotive airbag systems, and the production of Halotron as a replacement for ozone depleting halons in fire extinguishment systems worldwide.
