 BEVERAGE CAN MAKING JOINT VENTURE IN CHINA
 CHICAGO, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- American National Can (ANC) today announced that it had completed negotiations with the Blue Ribbon Group Co. of Zhaoqing, Guandong, China, to form American National Can (Zhaoqing) Co. Ltd. ANC will hold a 60 percent interest in the enterprise, which consists of a beverage can making plant located in Zhaoqing.
 ANC and the Blue Ribbon Group have agreed to operate the plant jointly, upgrade operations and increase efficiencies using ANC's state- of-the-art technology. The facility currently manufactures 12-ounce aluminum cans for beer and soft drink customers.
 "Blue Ribbon's good market base and our advanced can making capabilities make an excellent combination," said Jack H. Turner, ANC president and COO, Beverage Worldwide. "We look forward to a long and mutually prosperous relationship with the Blue Ribbon Group and to establishing a solid presence in the Chinese market place."
 ANC, the leader in beverage can making technology, is the largest beverage container manufacturer with plants around the world. It produces over 35 billion cans and ends annually. Stephen D. Franklin will serve as director for the joint venture, which is ANC's first in China.
 American National Can Co. is a world-leading $4.5 billion packaging manufacturer, producing a wide spectrum of metal, glass and plastic packaging products primarily for the beverage, food and personal care markets. It operates more than 100 facilities in 13 countries.
