AMERICAN METALS SERVICE APPOINTS INTERIM CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD
MIAMI, May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- American Metals Service, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMTS) announced that its board of directors, at a meeting held May 13, 1992, appointed Vicente Sanchez, former president of the company and present board member, as the company's interim chairman of the board following the recent death of Armando Riesgo. Mr. Riesgo was the company's founder, chief executive officer, chairman of the board and majority shareholder. Lee Mills-Riesgo, Mr. Riesgo's widow, was appointed to serve as a member of the board of directors. Maria Sanchez, a board member and the company's principal financial and accounting officer, was appointed to serve as the company's interim chief operating officer.
The company also announced that it expected to receive $1 million in proceeds from the key man life insurance policies which it maintained on the life of Mr. Riesgo, and that such proceeds would be segregated from other company funds in an interest bearing account until such time as the board determines the most beneficial use of the proceeds for purposes of maximizing shareholder value.
The company is a wholesale distributor of aluminum alloys and other specialty metals, and was organized under the laws of the State of Florida in 1968. The company's common stock has traded on the over-the-counter market since October 1980.
