STAMFORD, Conn., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- American Maize-Products (AMEX: AZE.A; AZE.B) announced today that its board of directors has elected Patric J. McLaughlin, 47, to the position of president and chief operating officer of the company.
The company also announced C. Alan MacDonald, 59, was elected chairman of the executive committee of the board.
Mr. McLaughlin, who joined the company in 1974, has been president of the corn processing division of the company since 1984 and a member of the board since 1988. Since 1984, he has served as president and chief operating officer of American Fructose Corporation (AMEX: AFC.A; AFC.B).

Commenting on Mr. McLaughlin's election, William Ziegler, III, chairman of the board and chief executive officer, said, "Pat has successfully led our core business for the past eight years. The board and I are confident his operational skills will benefit the whole company and its shareholders."
Mr. McLaughlin said, "I look forward to the challenge of building American Maize's existing markets and developing new ones to increase the company's profitability and its shareholders' return."
It is anticipated that Mr. McLaughlin will succeed Mr. Ziegler as chief executive officer on June 30, 1993, following Mr. Ziegler's previously announced retirement. Mr. Ziegler will remain chairman of the board.
With his election as executive committee chairman, Mr. MacDonald succeeds Mr. Ziegler, who will continue to serve on the committee. Mr. McLaughlin was also elected to the executive committee today.
The boards of American Maize-Products and American Fructose Corporation previously announced an agreement to merge the two companies. The merger is subject to shareholder approval and other conditions.
