AMERICAN LOGGER SOLIDARITY ORGANIZES NATIONWIDE CONVOY
 TO SEND RELIEF TO FLORIDA
FORKS, Wash., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- A nationwide convoy, made up of trucks from Washington, Oregon, California, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Georgia, and possibly the New England states, will leave Portland, Ore., Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 8 a.m. for the Florida coast, where Hurricane Andrew has left a wake of devastation and homeless victims, according to American Loggers Solidarity.
Organizer Barbara Mossman of American Loggers Solidarity, Forks, said simply, "How could you see the tremendous amount of destruction and human suffering, without trying to help. I was fortunate, through my affiliation with Alliance for America, a nationwide grassroots organization, to have the contacts necessary to put a convoy together."
The trucks will be carrying precious building products, non- perishable food items, and paper products to help with rebuilding in the aftermath of America's most costly natural disaster.
Mossman said the response she received from her initial contacts was immediate. "The American people are known for their compassion toward their fellow human beings, this is just another level of that concern. This convoy may well represent the last of our inventories, here in the Pacific Northwest, but that didn't stop contributors from wanting to share what they have, with the people of Florida."
The convoy will make overnight stops in Twin Falls, Idaho, Cheyenne, Wyo., Omaha, Neb., St. Louis, Atlanta and Lake City, Fla., picking trucks up all along the route.
Another part of the project included help to the hurricane victims in Louisiana. Mossman was instrumental in dispatching eight truckloads of lumber, non-perishable foods, and other basic human needs, to the Morgan City, La., area this week.
Ocie Mills, of Milton, Fla., will meet the convoy at Lake City and chauffeur the trucks down to the West Palm Beach Fairgrounds, where the Florida governor's office will oversee the unloading process.
The Washington State truck will be laden with a full load of building products, donated by Portac Inc. of Tacoma, Wash. The trucking will be donated by Monarch Transportation of Portland.
