 ANNOUNCE GROWTH HORMONE LICENSING AGREEMENT
 PHILADELPHIA, April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- American Home Products Corporation (NYSE: AHP) and Kaken Pharmaceutical Company, Ltd., Tokyo, announced today the licensing of growth hormone releasing peptides to Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories, the pharmaceutical division of American Home Products Corporation (AHP). Two agreements, signed on March 23, 1992, at the New York headquarters of AHP by Yoshiharu Wakiyama, president of Kaken, and Dr. Bernard Canavan, president of AHP, became effective on April 1, 1992.
 Under the agreement, Wyeth-Ayerst obtained an exclusive license in the United States and Canada, and an option to an exclusive license in Latin America, Europe, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, with Kaken retaining the right to manufacture and sell the products after a certain period of time.
 Commented Wakiyama, "We are enthusiastic about our new relationship with AHP and Wyeth-Ayerst. The combination of our R&D resources will certainly expedite the full evaluation of these high potential agents."
 Dr. Robert I. Levy, president of Wyeth-Ayerst Research, stated, "These peptides, with demonstrable biological activity upon oral administration, represent a novel approach to the treatment of disorders associated with hormone deficiency in children and adults. They may also be useful in correcting some of the metabolic sequelae of aging such as osteoporosis or muscle atrophy." He added, "The agreement with Kaken Pharmaceutical Company represents an important step in the continued commitment of Wyeth-Ayerst to research on metabolic disorders in the female health area, hormone disease, diabetes and atherosclerosis.
 Kaken Pharmaceutical Company, Ltd., established in 1917, is a major manufacturer and distributor of ethical drugs in Japan with annual sales over 55 billion yen (approximately $420 million). Their product line includes human pharmaceuticals (anti-infectives, anti-ulcer drugs, and anti-arthritic agents), animal health products, and agrochemicals.
 American Home Products Corporation is a worldwide manufacturer and marketer of prescription drugs, medical supplies and diagnostics, over- the-counter medicines and food products. Its Wyeth-Ayerst division is a major research-oriented pharmaceutical company with leading products in the areas of female health care, cardiovascular and metabolic disease therapies, central nervous system drugs, anti-inflammatory agents, vaccines and infant nutritionals.
