AMERICAN GREETINGS AND REVCO CHOOSE MCI FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICES
CLEVELAND, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) today announced that it has been selected by Cleveland-based American Greetings and Revco D.S. Inc., two of the region's leading companies, to provide a variety of telecommunications services. Both agreements are for three-year terms.
"The scope of MCI's services and the flexibility of our products positions MCI as the ideal strategic telecommunications provider for the fast-paced retail industry," said Jonathan Crane, president of MCI National Accounts.
Said American Greetings Director of Network Management, Dave Wither, "MCI earned our business with a quality support team that really understood what customer service was all about. The MCI product mix was both flexible and superior to that of the competition, and allowed American Greetings and MCIo? develop not only a technical relationship, but also a predominant strategic one as part of our long-range multi- vendor strategy."
According to the terms of its multimillion-dollar agreement, American Greetings, the world's largest publicly-owned manufacturer of greeting cards and social expression products, will use MCI's Vnet, a virtual private network service, to connect its corporate headquarters in Cleveland with 400 American Greetings locations nationally and internationally. The company will also use the MCI Vnet Card, which makes remote calling more convenient, manageable and cost-effective; MCI 800 Service, MCI Fax; and both domestic and international MCI Mail, an electronic mail service.
Revco, which operates approximately 1,150 retail drug stores in nine contiguous eastern states, will use a variety of MCI services. These include: MCI Vnet to connect its locations; MCI 800 Service for mail order prescription and customer service, and other internal applications; MCI Forum, MCI's audio conferencing service that uniquely features personal 800 numbers and ASAP conferencing capability; and MCI Private Line services (DS-O) for a pharmacy data access link.
