AMERICAN EXPRESS AND AT&T ANNOUNCE JOINT INITIATIVE FOR SMALL BUSINESS
NEW YORK, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T (NYSE: T) and American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc. today announced a joint initiative to better meet the needs of the nation's estimated 17 million small businesses.
As part of this agreement, the two companies have introduced the "CorporateLink" Program, which adds the capabilities of the AT&T Corporate Calling Card to the American Express(R) Corporate Card. With this new co-branded card, small businesses receive one bill to better manage and track expenses.
Beginning late April, small businesses that are American Express Corporate Cardmembers can automatically charge all of their travel, entertainment and business expenses, including AT&T telecommunications expenses with selected discounts, on a single card. In addition, the CorporateLink Program is available to qualifying small businesses that are AT&T Corporate Calling Card customers.
"Our research indicates that small business owners want to consolidate all their business expenses, including on-the-road telecommunications, in one comprehensive monthly statement," said Roger Ballou, president of American Express Travel Services Group. "CorporateLink responds to that need through a natural affiliation between the leader in corporate charge cards and the leader in telecommunications."
AT&T and American Express have formed joint research, product development, marketing, customer service and systems management teams to expand their business services.
"CorporateLink provides access to a variety of services and is a powerful tool for small businesses to better manage their expenses," said Merrill Tutton, president, AT&T Consumer Services. "It also establishes a platform for future product and service offerings that will help these important customers in the marketplace."
Some of the benefits available with the CorporateLink program include detailed expense tracking from American Express quarterly management reports and a 10 percent savings on AT&T Language Line Service and AT&T Message Service. In addition, Corporate Card accounts with spending of a least $30 per quarter on AT&T Corporate Calling Card calls will receive 10 percent savings on their AT&T Long Distance charges, in the form of certificates provided at the end of 12 months.
The CorporateLink Program is automatically available to all small business American Express Corporate Cardmembers. Beginning next month, they will receive temporary stickers to be applied to their current cards with AT&T Corporate Calling Card numbers. AT&T will notify its small business customers about this new program.
American Express will start issuing the new co-branded card this fall to current Cardmembers, at no increase in its annual fee. One side of the card will look like the existing American Express Corporate Card; the other side will carry the AT&T and American Express logos, as well as, domestic and international AT&T Corporate Calling Card numbers.
American Express Travel Related Services Co., Inc., (TRS) a wholly- owned subsidiary of the American Express Company (NYSE: AXP), is a group of travel, financial, insurance and communications businesses. Small Business Services, a unit of TRS, provides small companies with a wide range of expense management, purchasing and insurance services through the Corporate Card.
AT&T provides communications services, equipment and computer systems to consumers, businesses and communications companies around the world.
 Benefits of "CorporateLink"
Savings -- Cardmembers who spend at least $30 per quarter on long distance calls charged to their AT&T Calling Card number will receive a 10 percent savings over a 12-month period.
Consolidated Billing -- Each month, Cardmembers will have the convenience of reviewing only one bill which summarizes all AT&T telecommunications charges along with other American Express Corporate Card charges.
Call Detail -- Within the statement, Cardmembers will also receive a detailed breakout of individual calls -- listing the date, time, location, number called, length of call and amount.
Quarterly Management Reports -- Every three months, small businesses receive a report that itemizes every business related expense charged to the American Express Corporate Card by employee and by category of expenditure -- airline, auto, telecommunications, restaurant, lodging, etc. This summary of travel, entertainment and telecommunications charges in one report will provide small business owners with the information they need to track and manage expenses.
AT&T Language Line(R) Services -- A 24-hour toll free number (1-800-628-8486) will provide Cardmembers with language interpretation services in more than 140 different languages. This service will be offered at a 10 percent savings.
AT&T Message Service -- Allows Cardmembers to record and send a one- minute message in their own voice for delivery at any specified time -- immediately or up to seven days from the time recorded. Cardmembers who receive a busy signal or no answer can leave a message by hitting "(pound sign) 1 2 3" at touchtone phones. This service is also offered at a 10 percent savings.
Teleconferencing -- CorporateLink provides access to operator- assisted AT&T teleconferencing services from a public pay phone in any location.
AT&T USA Direct(R) -- A special four-digit code will give Cardmembers greater international calling capabilities than any other card -- to more than 250 countries and locations, and from more than 150 countries with the assistance of AT&T operators in the United States.
