 AMERICAN EXPLORATION APPOINTS HAROLD KORELL
 SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT-PRODUCTION
 HOUSTON, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- American Exploration Company (AMEX: AX) announced today that it had appointed Harold M. Korell to the position of senior vice president-production.
 Korell brings to American over 20 years of oil and gas operating experience. From 1973 to 1989, he was with Tenneco Oil Company where he rose to the position of vice president and manager of production with responsibility for worldwide daily production of 150,000 barrels of oil and 1.1 Bcf of gas. He led a technical workforce of 500 people. Prior to joining Tenneco, Korell was with Mobil Oil Company. After Tenneco's E&P operations were sold in 1989, he became vice president of McCormick Resources. Korell holds a degree in engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.
 In his new position, Korell will be based Houston and will be in charge of American's oil and gas production operations. The reservoir engineering, product marketing, land, and environmental areas will also report to him. He will join American on June 1, 1992.
 Commenting on the appointment, Mark Andrews, chairman and chief executive officer, said "I am pleased to announce that Harold Korell will be joining our senior management team. American has built a substantial oil and gas reserve and production base over the past several years and Harold's technical and management skills will help us increase the efficiency and profitability of our operations. I look forward to working with him as we enter the next phase of our corporate growth."
