AMERICAN DENTAL LASER SUES FOR PATENT INFRINGEMENT
TROY, Mich., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- American Dental Laser

(NASDAQ: ADLI), the developer of the Nd:YAG dental laser, has sued Endo Technic International for infringement of ADL's four patents on applications of lasers in dentistry.
In a suit filed Tuesday in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, ADL asserts that Endo Technic had knowledge of ADL's existing patents and willfully violated them.
ADL also filed a detailed denial of claims and asserted numerous defenses to the suit Endo Technic filed against ADL in June.
"We informed Endo Technic of our patents, which we believe are valid, and they chose to ignore them. We believe Endo Technic's claims that ADL's patents are invalid are without merit, as are the rest of their claims. We further believe that Endo Technic's motivation for this suit was merely an attempt to obtain a competitive advantage," said Daniel S. Goldsmith, ADL's president and chief executive officer.
American Dental Laser has marketed its pulsed Nd:YAG dental laser outside the United States since 1988 and in the United States since May 1990. ADL received its first patent for the use of pulsed lasers for dental procedures in 1985 and its other patents in 1989, 1990 and 1991. Endo Technic received its patent in June 1991.
In its lawsuit, ADL seeks among other relief, damages for its lost profits and any profits Endo Technic may have enjoyed resulting from its infringement, attorney fees, interest and costs. ADL is also seeking up to triple the amount of its actual damages because of the willful nature of Endo Technic's wrongful conduct.
American Dental Laser, headquartered in Troy, develops high- technology products for dentistry and markets them worldwide. The company's stock is traded on NASDAQ under the symbol ADLI.
