AMERICAN BUSINESS PRODUCTS INCREASES DIVIDEND FOR THE 36TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR

 ATLANTA, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- American Business Products (NYSE: ABP) today announced an increase in the quarterly dividend on its common stock, marking the 36th consecutive year of higher dividends.
 The board of directors approved an increase from the 1992 quarterly rate of 17-1/2 cents per share to 18-3/4 cents per share to be paid March 15 to shareholders of record on March 1.
 "This provides our shareholders a new indicated annual rate of 75 cents per share for 1993, compared with 70 cents per share last year, for an increase of 7.1 percent," said Thomas R. Carmody, president and chief executive officer. "The board of directors approved the dividend increase in view of the company's strong growth and as a demonstration of our commitment to continue rewarding our shareholders."
 Dividends have been paid by ABP every year without interruption for 56 years since the depression year of 1936. Since ABP's initial public offering in 1969, dividends per share have been increased by more than 40 times. ABP's record won it recognition as a "Dividend All-Star" of 1992 by the investor publication "America's Finest Companies." ABP was among only 56 companies cited for paying higher dividends every year since 1961 or earlier.
 ABP recently reported record 1992 sales of $463.5 million, the 54th year in a row of higher sales. Net income before special charges advanced 18.8 percent to $19.6 million, or $1.83 per share.
 ABP's operating companies and their products and services: Curtis 1000 Inc., envelopes, labels and business forms; Vanier Business Forms & Services, business forms; BookCrafters USA, Inc., book printing and distributing; American Fiber-Velope Mfg. Co., specialty envelopes and filing systems; and Jen-Coat, Inc., specialty extrusion coating and laminating of packaging. ABP is a joint venture partner in Curtis 1000 Europe GmbH, which produces and markets envelopes in Europe with facilities in Germany, England, Luxembourg, and Poland.
