 AMERICAN AIRLINES REPORTS APRIL TRAFFIC
 DALLAS, Texas, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- American Airlines had its


busiest April ever, flying 7.1 billion revenue passenger miles, up 11.4 percent over the same month in 1991. System capacity grew 17.3 percent, from 10.3 billion to 12.1 billion available seat miles.
 However, the large jump in ASMs caused the system load factor to drop 3.1 points, from 61.6 percent to 58.5 percent. The domestic load factor fell 3.7 points, to 56.9 percent.
 April 26, the Sunday after Easter, was the ninth busiest traffic day in American's history when it flew 297.8 million RPMs with a load factor of 73.2 percent.
 Freight ton miles in April showed a dramatic increase, up 45.9 percent over last year. American flew 87.9 million FTMs, vs. 60.3 million FTMs a year ago in April. Mail ton miles increased 38.9 percent to 29.9 million, up from 21.6 million MTMs.
