AMERICAN AIRLINES FILES LAWSUIT SEEKING INJUNCTION AGAINST APA

DALLAS/FORT WORTH AIRPORT, Texas, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- American Airlines today filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction against the Allied Pilots Association's (APA) leadership to prevent it from calling a strike in sympathy with its flight attendants.
"While the APA called for a vote and conducted a secret ballot election on the issue of sympathy striking, we were concerned that the APA leadership, might, in fact, ignore what we believe to be the feelings of the majority of American pilots who have no interest in participating in a strike," said Jane Allen, vice president/employee relations.
"Further, American considers such a sympathy strike a violation of both the Railway Labor Act and the company's collective bargaining agreement with the APA," Allen said.
"We felt it was both prudent and necessary to seek an injunction so we can continue to protect the interests of our employees, our customers and our shareholders by operating the airline in the face of this job action by our flight attendants," Allen added. "We believe our action will enjoy the support of an overwhelming majority of pilots."
The company's complaint was filed Friday afternoon in Federal District Court for Northern Texas.
