AMERICAN AIRLINES ANNOUNCES JUNE TRAFFIC

DALLAS/FORT WORTH AIRPORT, Texas, July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- American Airlines flew 8.6 billion revenue passenger miles in June, down 3 percent from the 8.9 billion RPMs flown that month last year during the half-price sale.
Available seat miles grew 6.2 percent for the month, going from 12.9 billion to 13.7 billion year over year.
American's system load factor decreased six points, from 69.3 percent to 63.3 percent -- again as a result of the half price fares in the summer of 1992.
International traffic increased 13.4 percent in June 1993 versus 1992 as capacity increased 14.3 percent.
"While traffic was down somewhat more than our projections, we expect our June revenues to be in line with our earlier expectations," said Donald J. Carty, American's executive vice president finance and planning.
Systemwide freight ton miles in American's cargo division jumped 23.6 percent, from 97.6 million FTMs last June to 120.7 million FTMs this year. Mail ton miles increased 10 percent for the same period, going from 28 million MTMs to 30.8 million MTMs.
