AMERICA WEST SELECTIVELY MATCHES TWA FARE SALE

PHOENIX, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- America West Airlines (NASDAQ: AWAQC) announced today that it is selectively matching a two- for-one fare sale initiated by Trans World Airlines for travel in the United States from Sept. 15 through Jan. 31, 1994. Tickets must be purchased by Aug. 14 and some blackout dates and other restrictions apply.
Marilyn Hoppe, vice president of revenue management, said, "America West has taken a conservative approach during the past year by offering affordable, yet rational fare sales. We have studied this latest fare initiative and believe that we must match in a few markets where we compete directly with TWA. However, we hope that this fare sale does not lead to the destructive fare levels of the summer of 1992." Hoppe noted that America West competes with TWA in only one-third of its total markets.
For additional information on these fares contact a professional travel agent or America West Airlines at 800-2-FLY-AWA (800-235-9292).
