AMERICA WEST REPORTS SIGNIFICANT TRAFFIC INCREASE AND 8.2-POINT LOAD FACTOR IMPROVEMENT IN NOVEMBER

PHOENIX, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- America West Airlines (NASDAQ: AWAQC) reported a load factor improvement of 8.2 points in November 1993 to 66.7 percent vs. 58.5 percent the year before. The Phoenix-based carrier also reported that its traffic rose 13.0 percent over November 1992 to 954.3 million revenue passenger miles. Capacity for the month fell 0.9 percent, compared to the same period last year to 1.4 billion available seat miles.
Michael J. Conway, president and chief executive officer, said, "The continuation of these positive traffic trends demonstrates that our fare and schedule adjustments implemented during the past two years have been successful in offering convenient and affordable air transportation to our customers."
America West recently reported significant service additions in the Midwest and Great Lakes region effective Dec. 15, 1993, primarily due to an expansion of the carrier's code-sharing agreement with Mesa Airlines, operating as America West Express. These additions will increase America West's Columbus hub operation from 31 daily departures to 65 daily departures, including 36 jet flights.
