AMERICA WEST AIRLINES REPORTS MAY LOAD FACTOR INCREASE

 PHOENIX, June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- America West Airlines (NASDAQ: AWAQC) reported an increase in its May 1993 load factor to 62.3 percent, over the May 1992 load factor of 61.5 percent. Traffic during the 1993 period was 890.1 million revenue passenger miles and available seat miles of 1.4 billion.
 Michael J. Conway, president and chief executive officer, said, "The traveling public and travel agent community continue to show their support of America West and our affordable, yet sensible, pricing initiatives." He continued, "America West was one of only two major U.S. carriers to produce a profit during the first quarter this year, and we anticipate that our second quarter will reveal an improvement over the previous three months."
 The following is the carrier's May and year-to-date traffic for 1993 and 1992:
