AMERICA WEST AIRLINES REPORTS HIGHER LOAD FACTOR AND CONTINUED IMPROVEMENT IN FINANCIAL RESULTS

 PHOENIX, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Phoenix-based America West Airlines (NASDAQ: AWAQC) reported its February 1993 load factor at 60.0 percent, up 2.9 percentage points over the same period last year. The airline also reported revenue passenger miles of 796.6 million and available seat miles of 1.3 billion.
 For the first two months of the year, America West reported revenue passenger miles of 1.6 billion and available seat miles of 2.8 billion producing a passenger load factor of 58.4 percent, up 1.3 percentage points over 1992.
 Michael J. Conway, president and chief executive officer, said, "America West is one of the few airlines that has taken the initiative of reducing our capacity over the past year in order to better match consumer demand in this recessionary environment. As a result, we continue to experience a dramatic improvement in our financial results due to higher load factors and a steady increase in our revenue yields."
