AMERICA SERVICE GROUP AWARDED NAVY CONTRACT

 NEW CASTLE, Del., March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- America Service Group Inc. (NASDAQ: ASGR) announced today that ASG Management Company, Inc. (ASGM), a wholly owned subsidiary, was awarded a contract by the Department of the Navy to provide ambulatory care services at the NAVCARE Clinic in San Diego.
 The contract begins June 1, for a four-month period, with options to renew annually for up to four additional years and eight months. Total value of the contract is $1.9 million for the first contract year (four months) and in excess of $30 million over the five-year period.
 Jeff Reasons, president of America Service Group, Inc., announced, "This award confirms ASGM's competitive edge in the DOD ambulatory care market and clearly establishes the company in the Navy's contracting program for ambulatory care services." This is the second major DOD ambulatory care clinic contract that ASGM has been awarded in the past three months. In December 1992, ASGM was awarded a similar contract to operate the Department of the Army's largest PRIMUS Clinic, located in Fayetteville, N.C.
 America Service Group Inc. trades as "ASGR" on the NASDAQ National Market System. Through it subsidiaries, Prison Health Services, Inc. (PHS) and ASG Management Company, Inc. (ASGM), ASGR contracts to provide managed health care services to correctional facilities throughout the United States and to other agencies of federal, state and local governments. Through its newest subsidiary, UniSource, ASGR packages and sells pharmaceuticals and related products to physicians, maritime vessels and to institutions where health care services are currently being delivered through PHS and ASGM.
