AMERICA ONLINE ANNOUNCES NEW DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENTS WITH COMPAQ AND COMPUDYNE

 VIENNA, Va., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- America Online, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: AMER), announced today that two leading manufacturers of personal computers -- Compaq and Compudyne -- will now pre-install America Online, the nation's fastest-growing consumer online service, in their personal computers targeted at the consumer market. These new partners join a growing list of leading manufacturers that already pre- install America Online on their personal computers for consumers, including IBM, Tandy, Apple, and AST, NEC and Acer, which were announced just last month.
 With these new agreements in place, it is our expectation that most consumers who purchase computers through the upcoming holiday buying season will now find America Online included," said Steve Case, president and CEO of America Online.
