AMERICA'S FAVORITE CHICKEN JOINS HABITAT FOR HUMANITY TO REBUILD AMERICA

ATLANTA, March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Atlanta-based America's Favorite Chicken Co. (AFC) recently announced plans to become a major corporate sponsor for Habitat for Humanity.
AFC has committed its corporate and human resources to building one new Habitat home for every 10 new business opportunities the company creates.
AFC projects it will add 1,000 new restaurants over the next five years, ensuring a minimum of 100 Habitat homes will be built. Each house will cost $35,000 to build plus $8,000 for the volunteer labor supplied by the corporate sponsor, bringing AFC's contribution to at least $4,500,000.
"I am asking over 320 franchises and 12,000 corporate employees to join with me in helping rebuild America as we add 20,000 employees who will staff and manage 1,000 new restaurants all across urban and rural America," said Frank Belatti, chairman and chief executive officer of AFC. "We are committed to doing the right thing in all of the cities that we call home."
The Habitat sponsorship program offers franchisees, company management and employees an opportunity to give back to communities where they work, and to see tangible results of their efforts.
"Habitat for Humanity International is most grateful for this outstanding commitment of America's Favorite Chicken Co.," said Habitat founder and President Millard Fuller. "This level of support enables Habitat to forward its mission to eliminating sub-standard housing in our country and world at a much greater rate."
Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to rebuilding America's inner cities, providing housing with low-income families and making decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. HFH was founded in 1976 in Americus, Ga., and has affiliates in all 50 states and 35 developing countries around the world.
AFC is the parent company of Church's Chicken and Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken & Biscuits. Founded in 1972, Popeyes is the third-largest fried chicken chain, with 813 restaurants, 698 of which are franchised. In addition to the United States, Popeyes has operations in Canada, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Panama, Jamaica, Honduras, Guam, Korea, the United Kingdom, Germany and Japan. Popeyes' 1992 sales were $580 million.
Church's Chicken is a 1,074-unit fast-food chain specializing in Southern-style chicken. Currently, the chain has 607 company-owned restaurants and 467 franchises. Church's has restaurants in 30 states, as well as Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Taiwan and Indonesia. Church's 1992 system sales exceeded $510 million.
