AMD announces availability of Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor.
Processor technology company AMD (NYSE: AMD) announced on Thursday (4 August) that its dual-core technology is now available through the AMD64 Longevity Program, serving high-end embedded designs.
According to the company, the Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor Models 165, 265 and 865, as well as the lower-power 55 watt version of each, are planned to be available for five years.
AMD64 processors are reportedly being designed into a number of forthcoming high-end embedded systems.
AMD said that dual-core technology can improve performance in the fields of network storage and telecommunications, as well as industries such as military computing, homeland security and medical imaging.
