AMC deputy speaks to WID's Monmouth chapter.

Kathryn T.H. Szymanski, deputy to the commanding general of the U.S. Army Material Command, spoke at a recent luncheon sponsored by the Fort Monmouth, N.J., Chapter of Women In Defense, sharing her perspective on what it takes to succeed as an executive in the Defense Department.

Never be afraid to take on new challenges, even in unfamiliar areas, she said. She has succeeded, she said, because it never occurred to her to fear that she couldn't do assigned tasks. "I just did what I had to do," she said.

Before becoming deputy AMC commander, Szymanski served as AMC command counsel. Previously, she held a number of military legal positions, including chief counsel for the Army Communications-Electronic Command.
