AMAX ELECTS TWO DIRECTORS NEW YORK, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of AMAX
(NYSE: AMX) Inc. has elected Ann Maynard Gray and John Hoyt Stookey to its board of directors. Gray is president of Capital Cities/ABCs Diversified Publishing Group and Stookey is chairman, president and chief executive officer of the Quantum Chemical Corporation.
Gray, an executive with 18 years financial and managerial experience with Capital Cities/ABC, is responsible for eight operating units which publish more than 100 magazine, newspapers and book titles each month. Before assuming her current post last April, Gray was senior vice president, finance, for the ABC Television Network Group. She joined American Broadcasting Company, Inc. in 1973 and subsequently held various financial and managerial positions, including treasurer of ABC, Inc. and vice president of planning for ABC, Inc. In addition to her corporate responsibilities, Gray is on the board of directors of the American Business Press and of several fixed income funds of Neuberger & Berman Investment Management, Inc. She is also a trustee of Cancer Care, Inc. Stookey has been chairman, president and chief executive officer of Quantum (formerly National Distillers and Chemical Corporation) since 1986. His presidency of Quantum dates from 1975; he has been a director of the company since 1970. He also currently serves as a director of the United States Trust Company of New York and of the Chesapeake Corporation. Stookey takes an active role in governing numerous civic and professional organizations. He founded and continues as chairman of the Berkshire Choral Institute; he is a trustee of the Glimmerglass Opera, the Berkshire School, and the American Management Association. He also serves on the boards of the Chemical Manufacturers Association and the Clark Foundation. He is an active alumnus of Columbia University, serving as chairman of the Engineering School Alumni Fund, and as a member of the Advisory Council of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
