 AMAX ELECTS FROST TREASURER
 NEW YORK, Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Lawrence B. Frost today was


elected treasurer of AMAX Inc. (NYSE: AMX) by the board of directors. The announcement was made by Stephen C. Knup, senior vice president and chief financial officer of the New York-based metals and energy company.
 Frost has been vice president and treasurer of Alumax Inc., a Georgia-based wholly owned subsidiary of AMAX. Alumax is the nation's third largest primary aluminum producer. AMAX has other business units with substantial positions in energy, gold and other metals.
 Frost has been with the AMAX organization since 1983, when he joined Alumax as a vice president, responsible for planning, technical research and development and market research. He was named Alumax treasurer in 1986. Prior to joining Alumax, Frost was vice president for planning and development with Howmet Aluminum Corporation, which was acquired by Alumax from the French firm, Pechiney.
 In his new position with AMAX, Frost will be responsible for the company's treasury activities, including financings, cash management and management of the company's assets portfolio. The appointment is effective January 1.
 A graduate of Fordham University in New York, with a B.S. degree in accounting, Frost also holds an M.B.A. degree from Pace University in New York.
