AM calls for adviser to be disciplined for email.
INDEPENDENT AM Mark Reckless has called for a special adviser to be disciplined after he used his Welsh Government email address to send Labour Party quotes to the Western Mail.
Huw Price, who used to be Welsh Labour's press officer and is now a media special adviser to the Welsh Government, in April last year sent quotes critical of the Conservatives' local government election manifesto. Later he sent a speech by Shadow Brexit Sir Keir Starmer to the Western Mail.
He also exchanged banter with a Western Mail reporter about the "reckless" nature of Conservative policies.
Mr Reckless said it was concerning that a Labour special adviser had been "recklessly breaching the Code of Conduct".
He added: "Special advisers are there to support the conduct of government and are given dispensation to act in a more political manner than other civil servants, but the code of conduct explicitly forbids them from acting in an overtly party political manner. "This is a clear breach of special adviser employment terms and should have been handled by a Labour Party employee - not by a taxpayer-funded civil servant.
> Mark Reckless AM "I expect the Code of Conduct to be applied and for disciplinary action to be taken."
The Welsh Government said it did not comment on staffing matters.
It is understood Mr Price passed on party comments on a day when the Welsh Labour press officer who succeeded him was not available.
