AM behind the times; COMMENT & DEBATE.

SIR - I am surprised by Andrew Davies' comments regarding the First Division Association, which changed its name to the FDA in 2001 ("Former minister criticises new pounds 80,000 Assembly post", Feb 18).

I am further surprised that he seems unaware that, as well as representing the senior civil service, we also represent other civil service grades and have indeed done so in several meetings with him when he was Finance Minister.

It seems it is only politicians and the media who still refer to us as the First Division Association. Does he also refer to the GMB as the General Municipal and Boilermakers union when it suits his political purposes? The FDA is an independent trade union formally recognised by the Welsh Assembly Government. PAUL NEILSON FDA National Officer for Wales
