ALVEOLUS PULMONARY STENTS IMPLANTED IN HUMAN PATIENTS.

A milestone was reached in Charleston, SC, recently, in the field of non-vascular interventional pulmonology as next generation pulmonary stents were implanted in human patients.

By focusing its attention on a growing yet underdeveloped medical field and through cooperation with its advisory board members, Alveolus Inc. was able to develop what it considers "the next-generation stent technology system."

This next-generation stent is believed to be the solution for the many of problems associated with conventional technology in this field. Alveolus, with its elite medical physician advisory board was able to fulfill its goal of creating devices "for physicians, by physicians."

According to Dr. Gerard Silvestri of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), an internationally recognized expert in lung cancer, the two procedures were standard, with the first procedure being more difficult than the second; both were successful. When asked about his reaction to the successful procedures, Dr. Silvestri simply stated that he was "excited."

Lisa Kaiser, a Respiratory Therapist in the Bronchoscopy Unit at MUSC who assisted in the procedures also praised the new technology and when asked about the Alveolus stents, she said they "placed well and were easy to manipulate."

Alveolus is pleased that it is able to leverage the talents of world leading physicians in this medical space in order to develop devices for physicians and their patients. The company sees these two procedures as the first major step in future product development initiatives that are underway in the fields of interventional pulmonology, gastroenterology, and interventional radiology for use in peripheral vascular disease.
