ALUSUISSE FLEXIBLE PACKAGING, INC. ACCIDENT UPDATE

 SHELBYVILLE, Ky., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Alusuisse Flexible Packaging, Inc. confirmed that an explosion and fire at its Shelbyville, Ky., packaging plant yesterday killed one worker and injured four others. Paul Brierly, a co-op student from a local technical school who was working in the maintenance program, died early yesterday afternoon in the plant's parts washing room.
 Reinhold Ritzi, a maintenance mechanic, is being treated at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville. Two workers, Mike Nilles, a maintenance mechanic, and Gary Wordlow, the plant's maintenance manager, are being treated at University of Louisville Hospital. Dave Ellison, the company's environmental and safety manager, suffered a minor burn injury and was treated and released at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville.
 The cause of the accident is under investigation by company officials and the appropriate government officials.
 Joseph J. Baksha, the company's chief operating officer, departed from the company's headquarters in Bellwood, Ill., for Shelbyville to direct the company's efforts and meet with the injured workers. "At a time like this, our greatest concern is for our injured workers, their families, and the safety of all our employees," Baksha said.
 Alusuisse Flexible Packaging, Inc. expects to release additional information on the accident Tuesday afternoon.
