ALOHA RECEIVES HAWAII'S FIRST BOEING 737-400
SEATTLE, Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- To the accompaniment of swaying hula

dancers and a traditional Hawaiian blessing, Aloha Airlines accepted its first 737-400 here yesterday from the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group, Boeing said today.
A stylized bird-of-paradise graces the tail of the new aircraft which was the centerpiece of delivery ceremonies featuring a troupe of "keiki" (child) hula dancers. A Hawaiian "kahu" (learned man) offered a traditional blessing as part of the celebration at Boeing Field attended by about 50 persons. The carrier will receive its second 737-400 later this month.
 A. Maurice Myers, president and chief executive officer of Aloha Airlines, told guests at the ceremony: "Our experience in operating a fleet of 18 Boeing 737s has convinced us that the addition of these two new 'Dash 400s,' with a longer fuselage, will contribute to our airline's focus on serving inter-island passengers with the most reliable and environmentally friendly aircraft in the Hawaii skies."
Aloha plans a series of inaugural flights with the new airliners beginning Nov. 22.
Introduced in 1988, the 737-400 is the largest of the three new-generation 737 variants. As configured for Aloha, the twinjets will accommodate 159 passengers, eight in first class and 151 in economy. The new -400s were acquired through a joint venture with Polaris Aircraft Leasing. Both will replace older 737-200s under the carrier's fleet modernization program.
High-bypass CFM56 engines produced by CFM International, a joint venture of General Electric of the United States and SNECMA of France, power all new-generation 737s. The engines have takeoff noise levels well below stringent federal requirements.
Aloha Airlines is a subsidiary of privately-owned Aloha Airgroup Inc. The carrier operates more than 180 daily flights to six destinations within the islands of Hawaii.
