ALLNET REFUTES NEW YORK DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS REPORT
BINGHAM FARMS, Mich., Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Long-distance carrier Allnet Communication Services, Inc. refutes the "Consumer Guide to Long Distance Calling," released this week by the New York Department of Consumer Affairs.
"The report is in no way extensive enough to make judgments on which companies offer the lowest rates, leaving out a number of program offerings and failing to explain which programs were actually used in the analysis," said Allnet Senior Vice President of Marketing Greg Jones. "The information misleads consumers and the media regarding the rates available, as nowhere in the report is it specified that alternative dialing plans are available."
Jones explained that the findings of an annual study of long- distance providers by the Telecommunications Research and Action Center (TRAC), a Washington-based consumer interest group whose primary goal is to promote the interests of telecommunications users, provides findings contrary to the results of the Consumer Affairs study.
The TRAC study released in July 1991 shows Allnet as providing lower residential rates than AT&T, and lower rates than MCI's PrimeTime program, said Jones. Its findings also show Allnet as providing the lowest rates across the board for commercial users spending more than $150 on long-distance service, explained Jones. Only one carrier was less expensive than Allnet for billings under $150.
"The results of the TRAC study, conducted for the past four years, and using information provided by the long-distance carriers, is proof positive that the Consumer Affairs study should not be relied on to make long-distance decisions," stressed Jones.
"Many consumers today recognize that price is not the only criteria when evaluating alternative telecommunication services," said Jones. "Most Allnet customers are with us today based on accurate and timely billing, special calling card programs and above all, quality of service."
"Also missing from the study was the fact that the Allnet primary residential calling program is geared toward supporting our commercial customers," said Jones. "We offer our commercial customers and their employees lower residential rates through an employee benefits program."
Allnet Communication Services, Inc., headquartered in Bingham Farms, is one of the country's largest providers of long-distance telecommunication services. Allnet is a wholly owned subsidiary of ALC Communications Corporation. ALC is publicly traded on the American Stock Exchange (symbol: ALC).
