ALLNET ENTERS MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS MARKET

BINGHAM FARMS, Mich., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Allnet(R) Communication Services, the country's fifth-largest long-distance company, announced a three-year agreement with Ameritech Mobile Communications to bring mobile communications services directly to small commercial businesses.
Under the pact, Allnet will offer the full range of Ameritech's cellular telephone services to all new and existing customers. "The response to the trial markets begun in early June was so overwhelming that we are accelerating our plans to extend this offering to the entire five-state Ameritech region," said Greg Jones, senior vice president at Allnet.
Currently, Allnet is the only major long-distance carrier offering single invoicing for both cellular and long-distance charges. "The conventional cellular service results in a separate invoice for each cellular phone; Allnet consolidates multiple cellular invoices into the customer's long-distance invoice," stated Jones. "Consequently, Allnet customers receive single invoicing, reporting, and customer service for all cellular, long-distance, 800, calling card, and other enhanced service charges."
Coming on the heels of AT&T's investment in McCaw Cellular Communications and US Sprint's merger with Centel, this move by Allnet is expected to accelerate an industry-wide trend to merge customers' needs for mobility with other telecommunications needs. Allnet continues to explore additional strategic alliances in wireless communications.
The Allnet strategic focus on wireless communications follows a very successful 800 portability marketing effort, in which the $400 million carrier attracted 12,000 new 800 customers. Combining wireless services with its complete 800 product line further consolidates Allnet's position as a premier supplier of telecommunications services to small/medium businesses.
Allnet Communication Services, Inc., headquartered in Bingham Farms, is the country's fifth-largest long-distance carrier. Allnet is a wholly owned subsidiary of ALC Communications Corporation. ALC is publicly traded on the American Stock Exchange (symbol: ALC).
