 OF ILLINOIS COMPANIES
 HOUSTON, July 14, /PRNewswire/ -- Allied Waste Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: AWIND) announced today that it has completed the acquisition of Environmental Development Corp. (EDC). EDC owns and operates three landfills and two collection companies located in Illinois. A total of 1,311,000 shares of Allied common stock were exchanged for the outstanding shares of EDC. EDC's operating revenues for 1991 were approximately $7,350,000. The acquisition of EDC more than doubles Allied's landfill capacity in its Midwest region and completes the initial phase of the company's expansion into this region.
 Allied also announced that it has completed the acquisition of six collection companies serving the Chicago metropolitan area. The six companies, Acme Scavenger Service, Inc., Duke Refuse Disposal, Inc., Peter Laning Sons, Inc., Post Disposal Service, Inc., Superior Scavenger, Inc. and B&H Sanitary Disposal Corp., will be consolidated with the company's National Scavenger Service subsidiary. The transactions were structured as poolings-of-interests and a total of 808,961 shares of Allied common were exchanged for all the outstanding shares of the acquired companies. In aggregate, the companies generated revenues of $7,800,000 in 1991.
 Allied announced that at a special meeting of the stockholders of CRX, Inc., a proposed agreement and plan of merger with Allied was adopted. The agreement calls for the cash acquisition by Allied of the 20 percent interest in CRX, Inc. it does not already own. The consummation of the merger is subject to completion of the public offering to be made pursuant to a registration statement recently filed by Allied.
 Allied Waste Industries, Inc., headquartered in Houston, provides non-hazardous waste collection, recycling, transfer and disposal services principally in rural and suburban areas in the midwestern and southwestern United States.
