 ALLIED WASTE ANNOUNCES OFFICER AND DIRECTOR APPOINTMENTS
 HOUSTON, March 5, /PRNewswire/ -- Allied Waste Industries, Inc.


(NASDAQ: AWIN), announced today that its board of directors has declared a $.30 per-share dividend on its Series D Preferred stock for holders of record as of March 31, 1992. The company also announced that the board of directors has approved the appointment of the following individuals to officer and director positions:
 Joseph R. MacDonald Executive Vice President and
 Chief Operating Officer
 Thomas Van Weelden Executive Vice President, Director
 Richard Van Hattem Vice President
 Anthony Ciofalo Vice President
 Robert G. Reedy Director
 MacDonald has more than 20 years experience in the solid waste industry with SCA, Waste Management, Chambers Development (director of operations), and Republic Waste Industries, Inc. (chief operating officer). He has developed an industry-wide reputation as a successful operator of landfills, collection companies and transfer stations.
 Van Weelden is a second-generation executive in the solid waste industry and began his career with Waste Management in operations and acquisition integration. Upon leaving Waste Management, he and his brothers built a successful hauling company and three landfills located south of Chicago. He is skilled in all facets of the acquisition process from selection and negotiation to financial analysis and closing. Van Weelden will be responsible for the company's acquisition program.
 Van Hattem started in the industry in 1972 in Chicago through purchase of a single collection route. He subsequently built the operation into a successful waste hauling and transfer station company through acquisition and internal growth. He is a member of the National Solid Waste Management Association (NSWMA) Waste Haulers Council and a member of the Illinois Solid Waste Steering Committee. Van Hattem will be in charge of Allied's rapidly-growing Midwest region.
 Ciofalo began his career as an equipment salesman with Mack Truck. He next ran a collection company in Iowa which he built and subsequently sold to Waste Management. After several years with Waste Management, he joined the NSWMA staff and has become a nationally recognized expert in waste industry operations as director of special services. In this capacity, he taught NSWMA seminars on hauling company operations, pricing, good management practices and systems. Ciofalo will initially be involved with the company's acquisition efforts.
 Reedy is a partner with the law firm of Porter & Clements, Houston, Texas, which has represented the company since its inception. Reedy has over 13 years experience in working with public companies in corporate finance matters including public offerings, and in mergers and acquisitions.

 Allied Waste Industries, Inc., headquartered in Houston, provides non-hazardous solid waste collections, recycling and disposal services principally in rural and suburban areas in the midwestern and southwestern United States.
