 ALLIANT TECHSYSTEMS EVALUATING STRATEGIC OPTIONS
 FOR INFORMATION STORAGE SEGMENT
MINNEAPOLIS, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK) today said it is evaluating a number of strategic options for its information storage segment, including divestiture. The company also said it has begun discussions with potential buyers.
Alliant Techsystems' information storage operations are conducted by Metrum Information Storage, Littleton, Co. Principal business areas include precision instrumentation data storage products and systems, hard copy output devices, and instrumentation and testing services. Sales through the first three quarters of fiscal 1992 were $63.5 million.
Toby G. Warson, Alliant Techsystems president and chief executive officer, said Metrum Information Storage has undergone a major refocusing of its business since it became a segment of Alliant Techsystems as part of the company's spin-off from Honeywell in September of 1990.
"As a result, Metrum's strategic focus has shifted away from its traditional government mil-spec markets toward more profitable commercial applications for its information storage products and color printers in government, industrial and computer peripheral applications," Warson said. "While this shift positions Metrum for future profitable growth, it further reduces its synergy with Alliant Techsystems' core defense business."
Alliant Techsystems supplies high-quality precision armament, ordnance, marine and information storage systems to the U.S. government and its allies. The company is headquartered in Edina, Minn., and employs 7,100 people throughout the United States.
