ALLIANT TECHSYSTEMS COMPLETES SALE OF METRUM INFORMATION STORAGE

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK) today said it has completed the sale of Metrum Information Storage to affiliates of Group Technologies Corporation for $14 million. Payment terms are $6 million in cash and an $8 million note.
The sale does not include land and buildings, which will be sold separately.
Metrum's results have been accounted for as discontinued operations since March, when the company's board of directors authorized a plan for divestiture. The decision reflected a strategic shift in Metrum's business focus from defense to the commercial market, which reduced its synergy with Alliant Techsystems' core defense operations.
Metrum Information Storage is headquartered in Littleton, Colo. Principal business areas include computer peripherals, digital imaging, and instrumentation products for commercial and government applications. Sales in fiscal year 1992 were $86.8 million.
Alliant Techsystems supplies high-quality defense and marine systems to the U.S. government and its allies. Sales from continuing operations for the fiscal year ended March 31, 1992, were $1.2 billion. The company is headquartered in Edina, Minn., and employs 5,600 people throughout the United States.
